More and more we live in a world where everything is judged on the way it looks. If we were to judge vacuum cleaners on their looks, then the Oreck vacuum cleaner would come bottom of the pile. But does an Oreck vacuum cleaner also come bottom of the performance league?

Let’s be honest Oreck haven’t re-styled their vacuum cleaners since our grandparent’s day. But that doesn’t mean to say that Oreck haven’t made improvement ‘under-the-hood’. Many other manufacturers can be accused of style over substance but Oreck vacuum cleaners have plenty of substance over style.

Oreck vacuum cleaners have been rated time and time again as being the best upright vacuum cleaner on the market. They’re lightweight, powerful and their simple design means that maintenance is easy and spare parts are cheap. The reason an Oreck vacuum cleaner is lighter than other vacuum cleaners is because an Oreck doesn’t have an outer, plastic casing around the bag; the dust bag is contained within a simple outer bag made of lightweight material; changing the bag is easy, just disengage the velcro fastener and pull the bag upward. Consumer reviews state that one of the main drawbacks of an upright is weight, especially when vacuuming stairs; not so with Oreck vacuum cleaners. The Oreck XL weighs in at just 8lbs!

But being light doesn’t mean being lightweight when it comes to cleaning power. Oreck vacuum cleaners provide more suction power, pound for pound, than many other vacuum cleaners. Many consumer reports back up the claim that Oreck vacuum cleaners are more powerful than their rivals. The Popular Oreck XL, not only is one of the lightest and most powerful vacuum cleaners; it’s also one of the quietest.

Oreck vacuum cleaners have always been light and powerful but the company has continually improved their products. Recently, the company has introduced the Oreck XL3700 Hypo-allergenic upright vacuum cleaner. This model comes with a built-in HEPA filter than traps 99.9% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. No other vacuum cleaner traps more dust.

It’s also little details that can make the difference in buying one vacuum cleaner over another. With an Oreck vacuum cleaner, the cord length is longer than most other manufacturers’ vacuums. This little bit of thought makes vacuuming that much easier.

So, is the Oreck vacuum cleaner outdated? Absolutely not. You can buy models that eliminate 99.99% of allergens; or buy wet/dry models that are the best money can buy.

Is the Oreck vacuum cleaner outperformed by other vacuum cleaners? Oreck vacuum cleaners have always been amongst the most powerful of vacuum cleaners.

Are Oreck vacuum cleaners out of fashion? Well, judging by the millions of sales each year to satisfied customers the world over, it seems not.

Oreck have been making vacuum cleaners for more years than most, and their original design, combined with new technological enhancements, mean that Oreck vacuum cleaners remain one of today’s market leaders.

Robin O’Brien is founder of a website dedicated to promoting the best vacuum cleaners available on the market today; including Hoover, Kirby and Oreck vacuum cleaners amongst others.

You won’t be after reading the scoop on those vacuum steam cleaners.

One thing that needs to be cleared up is that a vacuum steam cleaner really isn’t based on actual steam. These machines, no matter if they’re the cost effective Dirt Devil steam cleaners or big commercial steam vacuum cleaners, they all work basically the same.

Steam cleaners work using hot water and usually a detergent with most adding some mechanical action to loosing dirt. Once the dirt is suspended in the water/detergent solution, it’s then vacuumed up with the carpet rinsed with clear water. Understand that STEAM is water vapor at a temperature over 212 degrees f.

That said, commercial steam vacuum cleaners do have a greater capacity to heat and maintain water temperature thereby increasing the cleaning capacity of their equipment. It stands to reason then that any machine that heats the water before the actual carpet cleaning would naturally clean more effectively than one that didn’t have the heating capacity.

Several upright carpet steam cleaners are now available that have a water heating feature. The new Bissel upright units claim that their heating process can increase water temperature by as much as 25 degrees. This is a great feature as the hotter the water, the better the cleaning result.

Vacuum steam cleaner reviews to find the best steam vacuum should rate all of the following:

1. A mechanical or powered brushing system to loosing dirt.

2. A clean water heat booster to increase temperature for better cleaning.

3. Good suction and vacuum for quick drying ability.

4. A large enough water container to do a good sized room without the need to stop and refill the unit. About a gallon or so would be great.

5. A long cord that could be plugged into another room away from the damp carpet and water in the steam cleaner.

These features should be considered the basic minimum for any able whole carpet vacuum cleaner with steam capability. Just remember that although there really isn’t any steam cleaning, the hotter the water the better the clean. Carpet cleaners that use an electric heat booster will generally deliver better results if only because of the hotter water.

There are a number of great little machines on the market today that can keep your carpets looking great between commercial or professional cleanings. Some do such a good job that you may want to buy a carpet steamer with the money you’ll save from not using the commercial cleaning companies.
